Contractor stabs self to death after wife refuses to attend call

A 45-year-old construction contractor in the district allegedly committed suicide by stabbing himself after his wife refused to speak with his relative over phone on Sunday.

According to the police, Sabariraj (45), a construction contractor from Lakshmi Nagar near Kinathukadavu, received a call from his relative inviting him and wife Parimalam for a housewarming ceremony on Sunday morning.


After speaking, Sabariraj gave the phone to his wife. She, however, refused to speak. Upset over this, Sabariraj picked up a knife from the kitchen and allegedly stabbed himself multiple times.


A shocked Parimalam rushed him to the Pollachi government hospital. However, doctors declared Sabariraj to have been brought dead, the police said.


Parimalam works as a lab technician in a government school while her daughter is studying in a private college.


The Kinathukadavu police have registered a case and furtherinvestigation is on.
