Congress boycotts DMK alliance’s first 2026 meet in Tiruchy over Prabhakaran portrait

The first ever political gathering of the DMK alliance for the year 2026 was held in Tiruchy.

TIRUCHY: Congress boycotted the Samathuva Nadai Payanam organised by the MDMK in Tiruchy on Friday citing the presence of late LTTE Chief Prabhakaran’s portrait.

The first ever political gathering of the DMK alliance for the year 2026 was held in Tiruchy.

The meeting was organised by the MDMK as a padayatra from Tiruchy to Madurai and the chief minister MK Stalin was present to inaugurate the rally in which all the alliance partners of DMK except the Congress were present.

Eyebrows raised after Congress, one of major partners of DMK alliance was absent.

Despite the TNCC president K Selvaperuhthagai was scheduled to be present as per the invite, he was absent and the Tiruchy Urban district president Rex confirmed his absence and said that the Congress boycotted the rally as the portrait of LTTE chief Prabhakaran. He said that the party had boycotted this meeting alone.
