Cong wins by 7,170 margin in Kamaraj Nagar

Congress candidate A John Kumar was declared elected from Kamaraj Nagar Assembly constituency in the by-election held on October 21.

Kumar defeated his immediate NR Congress rival Bhuvaneswaran  by a margin of  7,170 votes, official sources said.


While, the Congress candidate secured 14,782 votes of the total 24,310 votes polled, Bhuvaneswaran ended up with 7,612 votes.


The other candidates who secured three digit votes were S Govindaraj (All India Makkal Kazhagam) 121, M Praveena (Naam Tamilar Katchi) 620, Lenin Durai (SUCI-Communist) 294, S Vetrichelvan (Ind) 343. About 426 votes were polled as NOTA .Kamaraj Nagar Assembly constituency has a voter strength of 35,009.


Cadre celebrate 

Meanwhile, Congress volunteers on Thursday celebrated the party’s victory in the Kamaraj Nagar Assembly constituency by bursting crackers and distributing sweets to the people. The party volunteers also undertook victory procession throughout the constituency on two-wheelers and other vehicles with music.


Thanking the voters of Kamaraj Nagar constituency for the support, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy said that the party had secured two third of the votes polled and the collective work during electioneering made this possible.


Narayanasamy also thanked alliance party leaders, including DMK president MK Stalin for the triumph.Further, he said NR Congress president N Rangaswamy failed to take up any people welfare issues and remained a silent spectator to all the troubles given by Lt Governor Kiran Bedi to the elected government. Hence, people gave a “deadly  blow” to the NR Congress in the by-election, the Chief Minister said.
