Sampath was arrested by Organised Crime Unit-I of CBCID for allegedly working with the main accused S Jayakumar to tamper the exam sheets. However, he claimed in his petition of being falsely implicated in this case, and added that the co-accused were granted bail by the Madras High Court and lower courts.

The City Public Prosecutor opposed the bail plea, submitting Sampath and his partners committed largescale scam in the TNPSC examinations including Group-IV and Group-IIA. Principal Sessions Judge R Selvakumar said, “Considering the long duration of custody, this court is inclined to grant bail. He shall execute own bond of Rs 10,000 before the prison authorities and execute two sureties for a sum of Rs 10,000 each, before the trial court concerned within one week after regular functioning of the courts.”
