“In the Budget, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman did not provide any solutions to the issues like economic slowdown, rising unemployment and price rise of essential commodities. Moreover, the Budget did not come out with any announcement to protect the livelihood of the working class people,” CITU state president A Soundararajan and general secretary G Sukumaran said in a statement.

CITU condemned the Centre’s decision to privatise the public sector undertakings to meet the budget shortfall. “The Centre has intensified its attempt to sell the shares of the LIC, handing over of the 150 railway routes to private sector and sale of the profit making public sector companies,” they said, noting that the trade unions suggestion to increase public expenditure on the infrastructure and agriculture and hiking minimum wages were not considered but the Budget favoured the big corporates.

“Condemning the BJP government for ignoring the demands of the workers and working class people and alsoin support of the employees of the LIC protesting the sale of shares and opposing the privatisation of the railways and other public sector companies, the CITU will hold state-wide protest on Tuesday,” they said.
