Chengalpattu: Woman held for snatching chains during temple festival

As many as eight women lost their gold chains on 1 August when they went to attend the festival in the Melakottaiyur Amman temple.

CHENNAI: Police arrested a 25-year-old woman who allegedly snatched gold chains from women who visited a temple in Chengalpattu on Friday.

As many as eight women lost their gold chains on 1 August when they went to attend the festival in the Melakottaiyur Amman temple. They filed a complaint at the Thalambur police station. The police when browsing the CCTV in the temple found a young woman snatching the chains from tother women during rush. Soon, the police formed a special team and after a search arrested the woman Pandieeshwari of Manimangalam and recovered 47-sovereigns gold ornaments from her. During the inquiry, police found that Pandieeshwari along with three women involved in chain snatching on that day the police have registered a case and a search is on to nab other women who are missing. Police said Pandieeshwari already has a snatching case pending against her in Salem.
