The biometric system was launched in 1132 fair price shops in Erode district on Tuesday. More than a hundred women had gathered at a PDS shop in ‘Kallukadai Medu’ to receive their essentials. The machines failed to authenticate finger prints of most of the women, who quarrelled with the staff after losing patience and after being denied essentials without authentication. Police had to intervene to reduce the tension. It was learnt that several other outlets in the district also faced similar issues.
