CHENNAI: The Chennai city police have booked Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) coordinator Seeman and over 100 party cadres on charges of unlawful assembly, among others, after they gathered outside Seeman's residence in Neelankarai with sticks and wooden logs on Wednesday.
The cadres' turnout was in response to the protesters from various outfits who gathered outside Seeman's house to condemn the NTK chief's remarks against Periyar.
The protesters were led by Thirumurugan Gandhi of the May 17 movement and had members from Thanthai Periyar Dravida Kazhagam, among others, who burnt Seeman's effigies and raised slogans against him.
Neelankarai police registered a case against over 800 persons from the protesters' group who gathered outside Seeman's residence, and in continuation, another case was booked against Seeman and the Naam Tamilar Katchi cadres.
Seeman's jibe against Periyar has earned him the ire of various leaders in the state. MDMK general secretary Vaiko and PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss had condemned Seeman for making abusive remarks against Periyar.
