Behaviour training commences for personnel across Tamil Nadu

As an internal measure to rein in rogue cops and possibly stop incidents like Sathankulam custodial deaths, the State police has started three-day training on improving police-public interface for serving personnel at 13 training centres across Tamil Nadu from Monday.

The first phase will cover five batches in two weeks, officials said on Monday. There is also a plan to continue the crash course on behaviour science online as well, said a senior officer.

In Chennai, the course was started under the supervision of DGP (training) Karan Singha at the Police Training College. Classes will be conducted on subjects like psychology, yoga and behavioural changes needed while interacting with the public. Experts from fields concerned will take classes to drive home the point.

The State police was earlier contemplating identifying rouge police personnel and impart training to them on behaviour science, and had even started doing so in some districts after the Sathankulam incident. But now, the department has drawn up a new plan to impart training to maximum number of personnel across the ranks, the officer noted.
