Air Intelligence Unit seizes 2 kg gold in Tiruchy

The Air Intelligence Unit sleuths at the airport here have seized 2 kg gold from a passenger who came from Dubai.

He had concealed the yellow metal compressed with the copper plates in a goat slaughtering tool. While the officials were involved in the inspection of the baggage of the passengers came from Dubai by Air India Express flight on January 14, they intercepted a passenger on suspicion, who was later identified as Yunus (36), a resident from Chennai. Upon thorough check-up, the officials found that Yunus was smuggling 2 kg gold in a goat slaughter machine that he carried from Dubai. Subsequently, they seized the gold worth Rs 76 lakh. After the Pongal holidays, the officials melted out the gold from the copper plate. Meanwhile, on Wednesday wee hours, the AIU officials seized Singapore dollar worth Rs 5.90 lakh from a passenger.
