The legacy of the leader is such that the AIADMK and the rebel AMMK are still depending on the late leader convicted in DA case and then abated by the virtue of death. The fact is that the factions of AIADMK are still relying on Jayalalithaa, dubbed as the iron lady of Tamil Nadu politics for her connect with the women voters and the downtrodden.
AIADMK leaders EPS and OPS are now gearing up for a massive rally to showcase the party’s strength on the death anniversary of Jayalalithaa. AMMK general secretary TTV Dhinakaran had also called for a silent march towards Jaya’s memorial. According to informed official sources manning the Jaya’s memorial arrangements have been made to accommodate up to 20,000 people, who are expected to visit the memorial on Wednesday.
“In the absence of Jayalalithaa, the AIADMK is now a platform for DMDK, PMK and BJP as alliance partners. Amma was like a daring lion who would call spade a spade in the political arena. Amma always understood the technical advancements and strengthened every unit of the party, including the latest IT wing,” said Karthick Kamalakannan, who has served as state deputy secretary of AIADMK IT wing.
“The party has got new leadership and the party is now in a position to fight the rebel DMK, but the absence of Amma is certainly an emotional and psychological loss for every AIADMK cadre,” said former AIADMK MLA K Sreenivasan. “The major respite is that the AIADMK government is executing the schemes announced by Amma. TN is still a leading state in terms of law and order and medical facilities. Though Amma is not there the seeds of development sowed by our leader is yielding results,” Srinivasan reiterates.
The political vacuum in AIADMK is now filled by EPS and OPS, but the state is lacking the dynamic and bold politics of Jayalalithaa, opines political commentator R Mani. “In fact, the flagship schemes of Jayalalithaa like Amma canteen and Amma scooters are losing their charm and galore,” he added.
Ironically the schemes opposed by Jayalalithaa which includes National Eligibility Entrance Test, Uday Scheme (financial turnaround and revival package for electricity distribution companies of India), Food Security Act have now seeped into Tamil Nadu. Post her demise the Central schemes opposed by the AIADMK leader are being implemented with or without the consent of the AIADMK government. “Would the Centre dare to implement the schemes Amma had opposed. Today, Tamil Nadu is free for all state, where corruption goes unchecked,” alleged AMMK strongman P Vettrivel. Tamil Nadu is now an experiment lab for the Centre. The state badly misses her dynamic leadership and even the DMK cadre are missing the dynamic politics of Amma, Vettrivel added.
