The police statistics said 5.93 lakh people were booked for not wearing masks and 18,154 for violating social distancing norms. The actual number of people booked was 6,11,653, the police said. In Chennai alone, 20,345 were booked, 20,053 for not wearing masks. In the city, cases were registered against 512 people for being in a public place on Sunday, a lockdown day.
