TIRUCHY: Five persons were infected with the COVID variant in Tiruchy, and there is nothing to panic as this does not have a serious impact and the patients are out of danger, said the district Collector M Pradeep Kumar, here on Monday.
Speaking to reporters in Tiruchy after distributing books and uniforms to the students at Government Syed Murduza Higher Secondary School, the Collector said, this year, around 8,500 students are admitted to Class 1 in the government schools from Anganwadi schools in the district.
The number is expected to go beyond 10,000, which is higher than the previous years’ enrolment.
Meanwhile, he said that there are five cases in the district with the COVID variant, but this would have no impact on the people.
Those who are positive with the COVID variant are out of danger, but still, the government has instructed them to use face masks in public places.
“At the same time, the number of cases is comparatively less than the previous year,” the Collector said.
Concerning schools, he warned against the private institutions for collecting exorbitant fees.
“Those who are found collecting heavy fees are liable to undergo legal action,” he warned. He also said that the state government has been initiating steps to control the number of school dropouts, for which special monitoring committees have been formed, led by the respective school headmasters.
In the meantime, Pradeep Kumar said that the sale of tobacco items is banned in the 300-metre proximity of educational institutions and those shops found to be selling those contrabands would be sealed.
