3 drown in Bhavani river

Three persons including a father and his daughter died drowning in Bhavani River in Mettupalayam near Coimbatore on Thursday. According to police, Murugesan, 45, a farmer from Karuvalur village in Tirupur district had visited the catchment area of Bhavani Sagar dam to start farming activities.

He was accompanied by his wife Vasanthamani, daughters Gowri, 22, Prabha, nephew Pradeep, 18 and relative Sekar, 21. “Around 4pm, Prabha ventured into the river to take bath, but began to drown. On seeing her struggle, Murugesan, Gowri and Pradeep got into the water to rescue her,” police said. While they managed to rescue her, the trio however began to drown in the gushing waters. The fire and rescue personnel rushed to the spot and managed to retrieve the bodies of Murugesan and Pradeep after an hour search.However the body of Gowri is yet to be found
