164 kg gutkha worth Rs 4 lakh seized from house

TIRUVALLUR: A special police team conducted a surprise raid on Friday and seized banned gutkha products worth Rs 4 lakh that were hidden in a house in Tiruvallur.

Following a tip-off that banned gutkha products were illegally stocked and sold in several parts of Tiruvallur, a special team was formed to nab the criminals.

During a surprise raid on Friday, the team chanced upon a locked house in Mohammed Ali Street where several bundles of gutkha were hidden.

“We seized gutkha products weighing 164 kilograms worth Rs 4 lakh during the raid,” police said.

Enquiries are on to find out details about the owner of the house and to see if there is a gang behind the incident.
