Two wins, two losses for Anand

Viswanathan Anand struck with white pieces twice in four rounds but he lost with black in two games for an even score at the Zurich Chess Challenge in his 2017 campaign.

Viswanathan Anand lost two of his first three games but came back on Saturday to defeat Gregoriy Oparin in the fourth round with white to log four points. Anand had got off to painful start when he lost with black against his 2008 Challenger Vladimir Kramnik of Russia in the first round. 

The computer showed equal position but everything quickly changed as the Indian had to give an exchange after Kramnik applied pressure. Anand was in his elements against Yannick Pelletier of Switzerland in the second round. The Swiss played passively after getting equality. 

Like in his game against Kramnik, Anand had equality against Ian Nepomniachtchi of Russia in the third round. Anand’s position was equal against Ian Nepomniachtchi of Russia in the third round. 

Anand held on grimly till the 36th move and then lost his way.
