Central Excise win state level hockey tournament

Central Excise beat Income Tax 3-0 to win the second DS Rajamanickam memorial men’s state level hockey tournament at the MRK Stadium here on Saturday.

John, Balaji and Hassan Basha were the scorers for Central Excise. The winning team won a purse of Rs. 1,00,000 while Income Tax were richer by Rs. 70,000. Later, in the third place play-off, University of Madras beat Indian Bank 4-0. T Arun Kumar, Veera Thamizhan, Senthil Nayagam and Saravana Kumar scored for the university team.

Special awards:

Best goalkeeper- Arun Prasad (Income Tax). Best full-back - Sathish (Central Excise, Best half-back - A Aravinthan (Southern Railway), Best forward - Veera Thamizhan (University of Madras), Best all-rounder - Albert John (Wesley Hockey Club).
