CHENNAI: Porkodi Armstrong, leader of the Tamil Manila Bahujan Samaj Katchi, filed her nomination on Thursday from the ThiruViKa Nagar (SC) constituency in Chennai as part of the AIADMK-led NDA alliance.

The nomination process for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections is currently underway, with April 6 set as the last date for filing papers.

In this context, Porkodi Armstrong submitted her nomination today, contesting under the AIADMK’s ‘Two Leaves’ symbol.

She is the wife of the late Armstrong, former state president of the Bahujan Samaj Party, who was murdered in 2024.

The case related to his killing is still under investigation. Following his death, Porkodi was appointed as a coordinator in the party. However, due to internal differences, she was later removed from the post. She subsequently launched a new party, the Tamil Manila Bahujan Samaj Katchi, on July 5 last year, marking her husband’s first death anniversary.

The ThiruViKa Nagar constituency is considered favourable to Porkodi, given the strong support base of her late husband in Perambur and nearby areas.

She has stated that her candidature is also aimed at seeking justice for her husband’s murder.

Meanwhile, VCK leader Thirumavalavan and film director Pa Ranjith have welcomed Porkodi’s candidature. They also expressed concern over threats to her life and called for adequate security.

Several Dalit organisations have also extended their support to her.
