Mistry cremated, politicians, businessmen & Parsis attend funeral

Among those who turned up for the last rites were members of the Shapoorji Pallonji Group and the Mistry family, while Simone Tata, the mother of Ratan Tata, and other prominent Parsis came to condole the bereaved kin.

MUMBAI: The mortal remains of industrialist Cyrus P. Mistry were cremated at the Worli Crematorium here on Tuesday afternoon with several politicians, business personalities and members of the Parsi community attending.

Among those who turned up for the last rites were members of the Shapoorji Pallonji Group and the Mistry family, while Simone Tata, the mother of Ratan Tata, and other prominent Parsis came to condole the bereaved kin.

Also present were Nationalist Congress Party MP Supriya Sule, Congress leader Milind Deora, and other politicians.

Prominent business persons like Anil Ambani, Akash Mukesh Ambani, and Deepak Parekh were among many others arriving there to pay their last respects to Mistry.

Many well-known Parsis including Hafeez Contractor and Ronnie Screwwala also paid homage to Mistry.

The funeral of Jehangir Dinshaw Pandole, a former national squash champion, was also performed at the Doongerwadi Parsi Temple with close family and friends besides people from the sports fraternity, in attendance this evening.

Mistry, 54 and Pandole, 49, were killed in a car accident at Palghar on Sunday afternoon, when they were returning to Mumbai from Udvada in south Gujarat, after performing some religious rites there.

Darius Dinshaw Pandole and his wife Dr. Anahita Pandole were critically injured and are undergoing treatment at the Sir H.N Reliance Foundation Hospital here.
