India's marathon seven-phase national elections has concluded, the Election Commission announced on Sunday. The vote count is scheduled four days later on May 23.

The voting on Sunday wrapped up the six-week-long campaign in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is seeking a re-election for another five years.

Nearly 100 million people were eligible to vote on Sunday in 59 constituencies across seven states - including politically-critical Uttar Pradesh in the north and West Bengal in the east.

In 7th phase of Lok Sabha Elections 2019, 7.27 crore voters took part of which 3.47 crore were women and 3,377 were persons of third gender, according to the Election Commission.

The voter turnout was the highest in West Bengal with 73.05% followed by Jharkhand (70.50 %), Madhya Pradesh (69.38%), Himachal Pradesh (66.18%), Chandigarh (63.57%), Punjab (58.81%), Uttar Pradesh (54.37%) and Bihar (49.92%) according to data pulled from ECI's 'Voter Turnout' app.
