Kerala to raise Colachel with PM

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday said he would meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and highlight the state’s concern over the Centre’s in-principle nod to the Colachel port project in Tamil Nadu, which is hardly 30-km from Vizhinjam port here.

He described the Centre’s decision to give nod to another port near Vizhinjam as “not logical”. The Centre recently approved the 17-year proposal to build a major port near Colachel, at an investment of about Rs 25,000 crore. The Rs 7,525 crore Vizhinjam International Deepwater Multipurpose seaport is being developed by the Gujarat-based Adani Group. Vijayan also said Kerala MPs would be meeting on July 17 to discuss this issue, which would be raised by them in Parliament.
