Sukumar (44) (name changed) living on TNEB office road in West Mogappair recently received morphed photos of himself on his phone. When he contacted the sender, the man on the other side allegedly demanded money and threatened to post the obscene photos on social media. He then came to Sukumar’s house and allegedly made away with 5.25 sovereigns.

Sukumar filed a complaint at JJ Nagar police station about the matter. But without knowing this, the person contacted him again on Wednesday night and demanded more money. Sukumar immediately alerted the police and shared the phone number from which he received the call. To nab the suspect, police made Sukumar call him and asked him to come to a spot to get the money. When he reached there on Wednesday night, the police officials who were lying in wait nabbed him immediately. Inquiries revealed that the suspect, P Alwin (21) of Pudukkottai, is a diploma holder. “He wanted to buy a KTM bike. As he did not have money, he searched Facebook to con people,” said an official. Police retrieved the jewels and remanded Alwin in judicial custody.
