The victim, Sunil, 20, a plumber and resident of Sidhi Vinayagar Koil Street, was talking over a mobile phone when he was attacked by the duo who reached there on a two-wheeler at around 4 pm. Police said Sunil was engrossed in a conversation and failed to notice the arrival of the two. The two assaulted him and also hacked him with a sickle. Hearing his cries, the passers-by alerted the police. Noticing the locals gathering on the spot, the attackers sped away on their vehicle.

Police said that Sunil suffered injuries on his head, back and ears and was rushed to Government Royapettah Hospital.

Later Sunil identified the attackers as Sathya and Senthil of Bajanai Koil Street. They were friends till recently. But an act of teasing a teenager by Sunil on Wednesday provoked the two.

“The teenager who was teased by Sunil went and complained to the other two, who questioned Sunil about it. It ended on a violent note with the duo attacking Sunil with a sickle,” the police said. Police have registered a case and have launched a hunt for the suspects.
