Woman police constable attempts suicide, consumes rat poison in station

A 35-year-old woman police constable attempted suicide by consuming poison after the inspector scolded her for not doing roll call properly. Shenbagam of Tambaram works as a writer in the Tambaram all-women police station.

CHENNAI: Police said three days ago Lakshmi took charge as the new Inspector of the all-women police station.

On Friday morning, Lakshmi scolded all the policewomen in the station for not doing roll calls properly. She held writer Shengabam responsible for the same.

After that, Shenbagam bought a rat pesticide from a nearby shop and consumed it inside the police station. She was immediately rushed to a private hospital in the locality and was later admitted to the hospital for treatment.

Police said Shenbagam is out of danger and higher officials are investigating the issue.
