The deceased, Rajammal of Erode district, was convicted for murder in 2014 and was lodged in Vellore Central Prison. After she showed signs of depression, she was admitted to IMH in Ayanavaram eight months ago. On Wednesday night, Rajammal committed suicide by hanging using a rope from hospital window.

The staff noticed it and sent her body to the Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination. On information, the Ayanavaram police registered a case and further investigation is on. Preliminary inquiries revealed that Rajammal, though recovering well, was upset that none of her relatives visited her at IMH.
