Woman held for burglary in Chennai suburbs

The police on Thursday arrested a 36-year-old woman who was involved in a burglary in the suburbs.

The arrested was identified as S Shafana from Vellore. The police said that she was married a few years ago, but got separated from her husband. After that, she came to Chennai and was working as a help at a house.


Recently, Shafana started targeting elderly people old who are alone at home and looted money from them, sources said.


On Thursday, while she was roaming in Chitlapakkam, residents informed the police on suspicion. The police found that Shafana had nearly Rs 10,000 on her. The police, after inquiry, said that she had cheated many people in Chitlapakkam, Pazhavanthangal and Pallavaram. The police arrested and remanded her in judicial custody.
