A grief-stricken woman, already separated from her husband, ended her life, unable to bear the death of her only son, who had committed suicide by hanging at his house at Maduravoyal on the city outskirts, Sunday night.

Police said 12-year-old Manikandan, a Class 7 student, was found hanging at his house on Sunday morning.

He was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead. Even as the police were probing the reasons for the boy allegedly taking the extreme step, his mother Ganeshwari too ended her life immediately after laying her son’s body to rest.

Ganeshwari was in a state of depression as she could not overcome the loss of her only son when she returned home in the evening after burying his body.

Ganeshwari, who earned a meagre income from tailoring, took the extreme step by hanging herself from the ceiling in her house at night. She was a native of Sivaganga.
