Wanted gangster Kakkathoppu Balaji lands in police net

The city police arrested notorious gangster Kakkathoppu Balaji, from Old Washermenpet on Wednesday.

The 37-year-old has a total of 53 cases, including five murders, attempt to murder, kidnapping, use of explosives and arms, robbery, extortion and conducting Kangaroo courts registered against him. 

Acting on a tip off, a special police team led by S Jayakumar, Deputy Commissioner for Washermenpet arrested the history sheeter from near Parthasarthy bridge in Old Washermenpet while he was coming in a car. 

“A sickle, which he normally carries with him was also seized. The police have been searching for him for a while now. We have arrested him on preventive grounds in view of the RK Nagar election,” said Jayakumar. 

A native of Parry’s in Broadway, Balaji was named Kakkathoppu Balalji after the area near Parrys where he resides.

Balaji is unmarried and has been detained under the Goondas Act nine times. He has been involved in a number of gang wars in the city.
