The police identified one of the deceased as Prem Kumar (25), a bike racer. He also used to perform stunts with hisremodelled bike. He was a resident of Pulikundram near Thirukazhukundram.
The other deceased riderwas identified as Hariharanm (28) of Sernthamangalam near Chengalpattu.
Hariharan, who was triple riding with Divakar (15) and his brother Nithish (17), were travelling to Thirukazhukundram from Chengalpattu to attend a marriage function.
The police suspected that one of the pillion riders may have been smoking a cigarette when the accident happened.They added that the burning cigarette might have caused the fire after the collission.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that Prem Kumar, who was heading to Chengalpattu from Thirukazhukundram overtook another vehicle. In the process, he went to the wrong side of the road and hit Hariharan’s bike. In the impact, the fuel tank of one of the bikes was damaged and the petrol leaked on the riders, said the police.
The Thirukazhukundram police have registered a case under the IPC Section 304 (A) (death caused due to negligent riding/driving) and further investigations are on.
