Rebel AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran on Saturday urged the government to ensure the safety of the medical and sanitary workers who risk their lives by serving during the lockdown period. Dhinakaran also accused the State of not addressing the salary issues of medical contract workers.

In a statement, the RK Nagar legislator said several private firms were not paying their contract workers. A contracting firm associated with the RGGH has not paid 300 contract medical workers serving in a government hospital.

These workers attend the wards, pharmacies and man the security gates of the hospitals.

They also serve as sanitary workers assisting the wards to dispose of the medical waste in GH, he said.
