Tribals demand new homes, allege corruption in construction

Tribal residents of Vazhavandhaan Kottai on Friday lodged a complaint at Tiruvallur Collectorate alleging corruption in construction of their apartments and have demanded for new houses.

TIRUVALLUR: Tribal residents of Vazhavandhaan Kottai on Friday lodged a complaint at Tiruvallur Collectorate alleging corruption in construction of their apartments and have demanded for new houses.

In a petition filed with the Collector by Tamilarasu, district secretary of Tamil Nadu Tribal People’s Association, the complainants claimed that the quality of construction in the 53 apartments that were built for them 12 years ago in Vazavanthan Kottai tribal area in Poondi were of poor quality.

“The walls were not plastered and the doors and even proper flooring was not been installed. After 12 years, all the houses have cracks and leaks during monsoon, putting our lives in danger,” the petition added. The association has demanded strict against those who were involved in the corruption and have also requested the Collector for new houses.
