Tomato and drumstick get costlier at Chennai’s Koyambedu market on December 27, 2025

CHENNAI: Vegetable prices showed mixed trends at Chennai’s Koyambedu wholesale market on Saturday (December 27), with tomatoes recording a sharp increase over the past week, while drumstick prices witnessed a steep decline.

According to traders, tomato prices rose by Rs 25 per kg over the week and were sold at Rs 55 per kg on December 27, compared to Rs 30 per kg on December 21.

Onion prices remained unchanged at Rs 36 per kg. Potato prices also stayed steady at Rs 30 per kg.

Beans prices increased by Rs 10 per kg over the week and were sold at Rs 40 per kg, up from Rs 30 per kg on December 21.

Lemon prices, which stood at Rs 30 per kg on December 21, dropped by Rs 10 and were sold at Rs 20 per kg on December 27.

Drumstick prices rose by Rs 40 per kg over the week, from Rs 160 earlier this week to Rs 200 on December 27.

Among other vegetables, bitter gourd continued to be sold at Rs 20 per kg, while prices of other items remained largely stable.
