The deceased was identified as Jackson, a resident of RN Nagar in Uthiramerur. His father Charles is working in a private firm.

The police said that with schools being closed for classes in the wake of the coronavirus scare, Jackson’s family had gone to Perunagar and was staying in his grandfather’s house. On Thursday morning, Jackson and his six-year-old sister were playing in the farmland near their grandfather’s medical shop when the boy fell into the open well there that he failed to notice.

Soon, Jackson’s father and villagers rushed to the spot and involved in rescuing the boy from the well, but in vain. On information, the Uthiramerur fire and rescue services personnel arrived at the spot around 9 am and began operations.

Around 1 pm, Jackson’s body was retrieved from the well and the Perunagar police sent the body to the Kancheepuram government hospital for post-mortem. The police have registered a case and are investigating.
