Three men arrested for selling liquor smuggled from Pondy

The Shankar Nagar police, following a tip-off that liquor is being sold illegally on Bajanai Koil Street in Tiruneermalai, surrounded a house on Sunday night and seized 90 liquor bottles and a bike from two men who were inside.

During the inquiry, the police identified them as Daniel (21) and Chandrabose (19). They are grandsons of Selvi (60), who has been arrested many times for supplying illegal liquor. The duo is said to be looking after her business now. The police said that the brothers smuggle liquor from Puducherry and sell them from the house for a high price.


In a similar incident, the Somangalam police, on information that liquor wasbeing sold from a house in Pallavan Nagar, raided the house and recovered 103 bottles on Sunday. The police arrested Prabhakar Malik (36) and said he smuggled the liquor bottles from Puducherry.


He has been running the business in the locality for the past few months. The police arrested and remanded him in judicial custody.
