CHENNAI: A 45-year-old man, for whom the Thanjavur police have been searching for the past two years, was detained at Chennai airport while attempting to fly abroad.

Immigration officials were verifying the documents of passengers scheduled to board an Air Arabia flight to Sharjah on Tuesday night. While scanning documents of Ibrahim Pakkir Mohammed of Thanjavur, they discovered that he had been flagged as wanted by police since 2024. His journey was cancelled and he was detained in the immigration holding area for further inquiry.

During questioning, officials confirmed that the Thanjavur police had registered a case against him under the Pocso Act, and that he had been absconding since then.

The Thanjavur Superintendent of Police had earlier issued a Look Out Circular (LOC) to airports across the country. Ibrahim was intercepted when he allegedly attempted to flee to Sharjah.

Immigration authorities alerted the Thanjavur police, and a special team arrived in Chennai on Wednesday night. He was formally arrested and taken into police custody for further legal proceedings.
