Tambaram Corporation to construct bus terminus near NH for Rs 6.5 crore

CHENNAI: The Tambaram Corporation has decided to construct a new bus terminal at 6.5 crore near the National Highway to reduce traffic congestion.

As Tambaram is a railway terminal, and also considered the gateway to the city, the junction is always over-crowded. Most trains to the southern districts halt in Tambaram, and from there, passengers take buses to reach their destination.

However, the existing Tambaram bus stop is too small to manage the huge passenger footfall. It’s one of the main reasons for traffic congestion on the National Highway during the peak hours. Encroachments on the bus stop by roadside vendors have forced drivers to park and halt the buses on the highway for pickup and drop.

So, the Tambaram Corporation, along with the district administration, decided to construct one new terminus that’s around 198 metres long, at an estimate of 6.55 crore. The Corporation has decided to float a tender on March 7, and the estimate to complete the work is fixed in September.

On Wednesday, Chengalpattu District Collector Arun Raj visited the place where the terminal is about to be constructed and discussed it with the corporation officials.
