CHENNAI: Chief Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari, along with Justice D Bharatha Chakravarthy, passed the direction on hearing a petition filed by Rangarajan Narasimhan, a Sri Rangam-based activist. The petitioner wanted the court to act against officials responsible for the theft of the peacock idol with a flower in its beak.
R Shunmugasundaram, Advocate General, submitted that a retired judge has already been nominated and the fact-finding inquiry would be completed at the earliest. The state also informed that it’d replace the existing peacock idol which has a snake on its beak with the new peacock idol with a flower on the beak.
Hasan Mohamed Jinnah, Public Prosecutor, submitted that though the investigation has been completed, the final report could not be filed in the absence of a certificate from the archaeological department.
