Those arrested were Guberan (22) and his brother Sanmugam (19); Manikandan (22) of Nellikuppam; Sridar (23), Sheriff (25) of Pozhichalur; Krishnamoorthy (29) of Maduranthagam; and Lokesh (25) of Guduvanchery.

Police said the deceased Suresh was in a relationship with a girl who is a relative of Guberan. The parents of the girl were not interested in theirrelationship and Guberan had also warned the girl to end the relationship.

Recently, Guberan and Sanmugam planned to kill Suresh and on Wednesday invited him to a booze party in connection with Guberan’s birthday.

At the party, they asked Suresh to forget the girl but since he refused, the brothers along with five of his friends attacked him with knives. They escaped from the spot after confirming Suresh is dead.

The police registered a case, formed a special team to nab the murderers and on Saturday arrested all of them. Two sickles and knives were seized from them. They were remanded in judicial custody and sent to prison.
