Security forces keep tight vigil in southern districts

A blanket security cover was thrown over the southern districts by the Central and State Security agencies on the eve of the 70th Independence day celebrations.

Intelligence sources said the security measures along the entire South Eastern Coastline were stepped up by the Indian maritime forces in coordination with the Coastal Security Group of Tamil Nadu Marine Police to thwart any infiltration bid via sea route by subversive elements.

The Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard have positioned warships and patrolling vessels along the International Maritime Boundary Line off Rameswaram coast, besides the air surveillance was intensified as part of the security blanket cover. 

Security measures have been beefed up in Kudankulam and the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre of Indian Space Research Organisation at Mahendragiri in Tirunelveli district, besides the VO Chidambaranar Port at Thoothukudi.
