Sanitary workers demand salary, stage protest

The sanitary workers of Chengalpattu municipality took to a protest on Wednesday morning demanding ‘proper payment’ of their salaries.

The workers gathered at Chengalpattu municipal office and protested against the officials. They claimed that salaries were not given properly.

While municipal officials say that contractor will pay them, the latter claim that civic body has not released the money, the protesters alleged.

They also claimed that they were working continuously since the pandemic broke out, but the officials are not bothering to pay them.

The municipal officials held peace talks with their representatives and promised that salary will be given with a few days following which the workers gave up the protest and resumed their work after three hours.
