Safety doors to be installed in 128 Metro stations: Metro Authority

Safety doors are to be installed in 128 metro stations in the 2nd phase of Chennai metro project.

The Chennai metro project has become a boon for commuters who are travelling during peak hours. It helps them to reduce time and avoid congestion during travel.

Currently, the first phase of Chennai Metro train is being operated in the elevated line between Koyembedu- Alandur and Little Mount- Airport and in the underground passage between Thirumangalam- Vannarapettai, Saidapet- Central.

The second phase is planned for Madhavaram- Siruseri, covering a distance of 118 km. This 69,180 crore project is said to have 80 metro stations in the elevated route and 48 stations in the underground.

A Metro authority on anonymity told that 128 stations of the 2nd phase will have automatic safety doors installed, to avoid accidents and suicides.

He also told that installation of safety doors would reduce the electricity consumption and effective usage of air conditioners installed in the Metro Stations.
