Since the vehicle movement has been restricted in the city as part of the stringent lockdown, police on patrol intercepted a two-wheeler rider on Jules Road-Prakasam Salai junction. Since he gave contradictory replies, the cops checked the vehicle and were shocked to find bundles of cash stuffed in the under-seat storage in a backpack.

Though the rider was taken to the police station, since he could not produce any valid documents to account for the cash, police grilled him further. The man was identified as Nathar Sahib (35) of Mannadi and he reportedly admitted to police that one Irfan, a real estate businessman of Pavalakkara street, sent him to wait at Thaiyuappa Mudhali Street where some unidentified men gave him the cash to hand it over to Irfan.

When contacted, a senior police official said Nathar Sahib and the seized cash will be handed over to the Income Tax department on Monday for further investigation.
