Bharath, after a session of swimming, was unable to move his limbs. When he visited a doctor at a local hospital there with symptoms of severe pain in the abdomen, it was found that the vein was causing problems. 

“After further scans, it was found that Bharath had Aortic Dissection (which occurs when an injury to the innermost layer of the aorta allows blood to flow between the layers of the aortic wall, forcing the layers apart). He was immediately referred to MIOT hospital, and was brought here barely able to walk 10 steps,” said Dr Vijit K Cherian, Director, Adult Cardio Thoracic Surgery, MIOT, who treated him. 

Due to the complexity of the case, the chances of mortality and morbidity were high. A Hybrid procedure which involved inserting a guide wire through the leg artery and deploying a full-sized graft into the entire descending aorta was performed.
