Passengers protest on board as Port Blair flight returns to city

The flight was scheduled to depart at 2.15 pm with 170 passengers. However, it departed after a delay of one hour and there was no announcement on the delay. Airport sources said since there were heavy winds in Andamans after 5 pm the flight could not land in the runway and was waiting in the air for a long time for clearance. Later the flight made a U-turn to Chennai and landed at 9 pm.

After the flight landed in Chennai the passengers staged a sit-in protest inside the flight. They also alleged that airlines didn’t even provide food for them. The protest was called off only after airline officials held peace talks and allowed cancellation of tickets.

Meanwhile, the London-Hyderabad flight was diverted to the Chennai airport following bad weather on Wednesday.
