The deceased, Selvi, got married to Prabhu in 2013 and the couple has a son aged two.

Prabhu did not have a proper job and used to often quarrel with Selvi. Once, when he was under the influence of alcohol, he even attacked her with knife. Three months ago, she left for her parents’ house at Chinna Kancheepuram along with her son.

Prabhu visited Selvi on December 29 and convinced her to return to their house at Sreenivasan Nagar. On Sunday morning, Prabhu called Selvi’s parents Sumathi and Veeraraghavan claiming that Selvi hanged herself from the ceiling when she was alone at home. Getting suspicious about Prabhu’s claims, they lodged a complaint at Tirumullaivoyal police station and a case of suspicious death has been registered. Further inquiry is on.

As the couple got married only six years ago, the police have recommended an inquiry by the Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO), and added that suitable action would be initiated based on the outcome of the inquiry.
