Shanmuganathan’s ouster should come as no surprise, particularly to AIADMK men who saw him losing party district (Thoothukudi) secretary’s post only a little over a week ago. Another surprise change in the reshuffle was the inclusion of businessman turned MLA elected from Avadi K. Pandiarajan in the cabinet.

Pandiarajan would make his ministerial debut as School Education Minister with the demotion of minister Benjamin who is moved to the rural industries, which has been divested of Rajendra Balaji. Ex-deputy mayor of Chennai Benjamin, shot to fame after he was handed over the high profile school education portfolio.

Meanwhile, the government issued orders promoting four Assistant Superintendents of Police as SPs. Dr P Arun Sakthikumar, ASP, Thoothukudi, has been posted as DCP (L&O) Madurai city. Dr S Deepa Ganiger, ASP, Thoothukudi has been promoted as SP, Video Piracy Cell.
