NGO assists paralysed woman to be flown from Bahrain to Chennai

Indians in Bahrain decided to send Selvanayaki back to India since she was suffering alone there. They took steps to fly her home with the help of NGOs but since Selvanayaki couldn’t sit and walk, the flight fare was very high.

CHENNAI: An Ariyalur woman who was paralysed and treated in Bahrain was brought to Chennai with help of NGOs on Friday.

Selvanayaki of Sendurai Taluk in Ariyalur went to Bahrain to work as a maid 10 years ago. Recently, Selvanayaki started to face health issues and was paralysed. She was admitted to the hospital in Bahrain and then her condition improved but she was bedridden.

Indians in Bahrain decided to send Selvanayaki back to India since she was suffering alone there. They took steps to fly her home with the help of NGOs but since Selvanayaki couldn’t sit and walk, the flight fare was very high.

Later, the Tamil Association in Bahrain sought help from the State and Union governments and also gave ads on social media and in newspapers. Later, the Indian embassy helped in arranging Selvanayaki’s travel.

On Friday night, Selvanayaki reached Chennai airport on Gulf Airlines flight in a stretcher, where she was welcomed by officials from the Commissionerate of Rehabilitation and Welfare of Non-Resident Tamils. They had arranged an ambulance to take her to Ariyalur.
