Kickstarting a training programmes for trainers on animal disaster management here at the Madras Veterinary College (MVC), the commissioner released state disaster management standard operating procedures and distributed veterinary kits for the trainers on animal disaster management.
National Disaster Response Force, Arakonam also exhibited and demonstrated various disaster relief devices for the benefit of the stakeholders. “India has been vulnerable to varying degrees of local to many natural disasters on account of its unique geo-climatic conditions. Tamil Nadu is prone to multi-hazards and is frequented by hazards of various nature and different intensities. Not only humans, animals are also vulnerable for disasters and infections,” a NDRF official said adding that Kerala had recently announced Corona outbreak as state disaster.
According to Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, the varsity has established three new veterinary emergency response units at its constituent colleges at Namakkal, Orathanadu and Tirunelveli. Already a veterinary emergency response team is functioning in MVC, Chennai.
Dr P Kumaravel, Professor and head, department of veterinary and animal husbandry extension education, Madras Veterinary College also spoke.
