MTC to use breathalyser to nab drunk staff

To prevent its employees from attending work after consuming alcohol, Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) has brought breath analyser to test the drivers and conductors if they suspect them to have consumed alcohol.

In a circular, MTC’s safety and training wing manager has asked the depot manager to conduct breath analyser test on drivers and conductors who are suspected to have consumed alcohol when they arrive at the depot. “If the drivers and the conductors on duty are found to have consumed alcohol, severe actions will be taken,” it warned The breath analyser unit has been given to Tambaram, Tiruvanmiyur, Tiruvottiyur and Anna Nagar depots, it noted. Despite repeated warnings, a driver attached to Chormpet-1 depot was suspended for coming to work drunk.
