Manja slits 4-yr-old’s throat, kite flyer held

The MKB Nagar police arrested a man for flying kite as the manja thread he used slit a four-year-old girl’s throat on Monday. Two more persons were also arrested for possessing manja thread in the locality.

The incident happened on the day of the Ramzan when Basheer Ahmed of Vyasarpadi was on his way to a relative’s house with his wife riding pillion on his two-wheeler and their four-year-old daughter Ayesha Gani sitting in the front.

When the bike was on North Avenue road, a manja thread surrounded Ayesha Gani’s neck. Basheer Ahmed, who noticed it, immediately stopped the bike and removed the thread. He then rushed her to a nearby hospital where she got four stitches.

Based on their complaint, MKB Nagar police launched a hunt for the suspect and arrested D Hariprasad (24) of the same locality. He was booked under Section 337 of IPC read with City Police Act. He was let off on station bail. Similarly, S Praveen of Perambur and one Dinesh Kumar were also arrested for possessing manja thread. Police said Dinesh Kumar was secured while flying kite and inquiries revealed that he bought the kite and manja thread online. The duo too was released on bail.
